Long-distance move from Greenville, SC to Dallas, TX

Move from South Carolina to Texas. Storage for 9 months

We spent over $40K in moving and storage expenses with Elements to move and store our furniture for 9 months. When they moved us into our new home they lost 5-6 boxes. Including my wife’s entire wardrobe, kitchen supplies, family photos, etc. They said that all boxes were accounted for and were totally unresponsive. We had numerous problems with the president of the company, who refused to acknowledge any problems they had. Including trying to charge us $1,100 overage over the original estimate.

Worst move ever

I would not trust this company to move a dish from the stove to the table. My husband and I have moved several times in our life, even from Europe to the USA, with never a bad experience, never anything broken. And there were never any price shenanigans pulled on us--as Element did--the date the movers finally arrived. Element did all the packing. A valuable set of dishware for 6 became a set for 3. A Cuisineart food processor was cracked in several places. A vintage wall clock was left behind; but the weights were delivered. Glass covering framed graphic artworks were cracked. Boxes were just dumped in one room and the unpacking service we paid for was not performed. I could go on and on. Finally, to add insult to injury, movers asked for tips.

Great Experience.

I received two on-site estimates and Element came in MUCH less than the other estimate. They also said they could finish the move in one day whereas the other company said they would load one day, then unload the second or possibly even the third (and this was only a 150 mile move).   Mike, Eddy, and LaDarrius were my movers. They showed up on time, did a great job loading/unloading and finished well within the estimated time alloted in the estimate. No hidden costs or surprises as hear about with many companies.   I would recommend Element to anyone looking to find a trust-worthy moving company!    .

Do Not Use This Company!

The dishonesty was at best. Shocking. I am still beside myself with the whole experience. I don't know what is worse, the lies, or the theft/damage.  The move cost over $6000.00 and they stole or damaged over $7000.00 worth of items.  The boxes that were missing just mysteriously disappeared, very personal items and the owner of the company, Elle Nesher, could not care less. I made my claim and jumped through all the hoops they said to. They have sent me a check for $69.00 to "Reimburse" me.  $69.00!  That's it.  Even with the .60 cents per pound per article, the amount should have been close to $1000.00 since the weight of the goods damaged/stolen was over 1500 pounds. No phone calls of apology, no attempt on the companies part to right the situation.  Wooden bookcases were completely demolished.  Dresser drawers ruined.  Kitchen table and chairs, all solid oak, were cracked and chipped. Large picture boxes, the ones that plainly state "Do not lay flat" were shoved in between boxes, flat of course, and the company claims they are not responsible for the items broken inside the boxes.  So many things were broken.  So many things missing.  They swore up and down that all their employees were element employees, but a completely different company showed up with my shipment, baking van lines. Certainly not element moving and storage.  After I made it clear to every company I got quotes from that I did not want to do business with a company who outsourced any part of my move. This was extremely important to me and the company knew this, so they lied to get my business. They said 10 days for the move, it took three weeks. I was robbed, disrespected and disregarded. Do not use this company.

Official company response

Ms. Stafford,

We are sorry that you found our claim settlement offer unsatisfactory. The offer was based on the missing items you claimed, 4 boxes missing : 3 medium and 1 small. When a customer packs the boxes, that we move, we cannot determine the contents of those boxes. We do not know what a shipper has inside of the boxes. Respectfully, we cannot accept responsibility or liability for items that you have claimed as “missing” inside of your packed by owner boxes. Our inventory showed the quantity of cartons, we did not have anything to substantiate the exact contents of each carton nor is that a requirement for owner-packed shipments. Thus, there is no clear evidence to support that the items in question- claimed as “missing or stolen” ever came into our possession. Additionally, we did not unpack the shipment so don’t know whether anything may have been discarded with the packing material.

The damaged items you claimed were not validated with photographs, as requested. Some of the damaged items you said were discarded. It is customary for a claimant to submit photographs of the damaged items, or to at least have the damaged items available for inspection by the carrier. There were no notations of any damaged items on the inventory record or delivery receipt.

We have checked the inventory, which was prepared when your household goods were loaded and find that all of the articles included in the shipment are in fact shown on the inventory and were delivered to your destination residence. Your signature on the inventory at the delivery attests to this without any notations regarding loss and/or damage.

In regard to your statement: ” They said 10 days for the move, it took three weeks.” We have reviewed your pick up date and the actual delivery date, and it was only 10 business days. We suggest you look at the document entitled: Interstate Household Goods Bill of Lading to confirm the pick-up and delivery dates.

Lacking evidence to support any mishandling on our part of our personnel, we are unable to offer additional compensation.

I'd give Element a Solid 5.

Just wanted to take a moment and review Element, because it's not that often I come across ANY company that I want to tell others about publiclly.
However, Element is one of those companies with an outstanding staff and customer services. On top of that, they actually do what they say and stick to it.
Time after time I have hired moving companies (I'm retired but still travel to locations and move often) in the past and they have all had dismal failures. Even one time loosing my entire moving truck of furniture for 4 days in Ohio.
Anyway, Element had none of that and their crew was very poliet and courteous to say the least. They move like the wind and always called me "Sir" even though I wasn't wearing any military uniforms!
Give them a call for a Solid 5 star move.
Thanks!
Chris Tuburk.

Moving Household Goods and Furniture.

We had multiple issues.  first, the salesperson underestimated the move by 50% of what it actually cost.  We stored our household goods at their storage facility in Carrollton, TX and we asked for some discounts due to the poor estimating; but after saying that they would help us; in the end, they did nothing.   Upon delivery of our goods, we discovered a number of broken items, badly scratched furniture, and items such as lamps and cabinets that were broken down to such a level that we could not put them back together.  The boxes were unmarked as to what room that went to, and parts of a given item ended up in more than one box.  We had large items broken (e.g., a 3 foot clock) and small ones (curio figures) smashed.    In fairness, the moving crews were polite and easy to work with, but their packing acumen was inconsistent, and the damages mounted as we unpacked. .

Official company response

Mr. Wilson,

We apologize that your move wasn't perfect. Believe me Sir we strive for perfection on every move, and sometimes things do happen and damages occur. Our promise to quickly and efficiently handle every claim presented for processing. You and I have spoken in great length regarding the increase in cost to your move. I clearly stated during our phone calls that your job changed due to the change from NO packing services, to the additional packing your wife requested. The estimating wasn't bad, the fact that you added extra services (packing service and materials) directly impacted your final cost.

During the course of our telephone conversations, you never mentioned any damages. I really wish you would have. TXDOT regulates the claim handling procedures. A shipper must file an intra-state damage claim within 90 days from the date of delivery. Your delivery was on 09/13/13.

This information was provided to you in the brochure that you received entitled: "Your Rights and Responsibilities When you Move in Texas." We all have responsibilities, the customer must accurately and clearly communicate the scope of the job and the carrier must full carry out all agreed services as outlined in the signed Bill of Lading/Contract for Services.

Thank you for your patronage, Mr.Wilson we hope you enjoy your new home and Happy New Year 2014.

Local Move.

I used Element Moving for my initial move of household to storage, and then for the move into our new house.  The intial move experience was great, so I quickly scheduled them for my move into new home.  The move experience into our house was as good as the initial move.  The guys were very nice/polite, prompt, and carefule with all of the items.  They did a great job on what turned out to be a very cold day for North Texas.  I would recommend Element Moving to anyone looking for a company to hire, and I most definitely will use them for all future moves.

Far exceeded expectations.

Form the moment of my first phone call, Hollie took the time to answer my all of my questions. After finding so many positive reviews, I called back and scheduled my move. All of our belongings were in storage and only moving a few miles down the road. The team of Jeremy, Moises, Roberto & Jorge showed up right on time, and even through it was raining all morning, Jeremy found a dry spot for he and I to discuss the contract one last time.   The guys jumped into the move and loaded the truck by far the fastest I have seen. One would think that this would not be secure or a cariing manner, yet these guys had a method to their speed! Very well packed and secure. Even going as far as to wipe the rain of the furniture as it was loaded on the truck.   Upon the unloading of the move, I had concerns with a new home and wood floors and the rain. . Jeremy and the guys laid down a protective covering and were found to be keeping things neat and tidy throughout the process. Once again an overall GREAT experiance to help alleviate the stress of moving. Thank you Element! You guys all are rock stars!   You will be referred many times!   Jason & Suzana  .

Amazing Moving Experience.

Our move could not have been a better experience!  Element went above and beyond in so many ways.  Every single person that we dealt with along the process was polite, friendly, and ready to bend over backwards to make sure that our needs were met.  The price was excellent also!  We would HIGHLY recommend Element Moving and would definitely use them again.

Element Moving Review.

Element Moving was the first moving company I have ever used, but the experience was amazing. Although I was a little surprised at how quickly the price went up (I paid for the 3 men, 2 hours, 1 truck Groupon for $134, but ended up paying a little over $233.00 after fees for moving 20 minutes away), the three men that moved me from my apartment to storage did a fantastic job. They were nice, punctual, efficient, careful, and informative. It was cold and drizzling outside but that did not deter the morale of the group. I would recommend Element Moving in a heartbeat!

Jessica,
Thank you for allowing Element to be the first moving company you ever hired. We sincerely appreciate your business and know that if anything comes up in the future please do not hesitate in giving Element a call. We wish you the absolute best in your new home. -Hollie-.
